We are a chemical biology group focused on training scientists to tackle problems of fundamental academic interest as well as those having potential translational significance. The group comprises a team of chemists, biochemists, and biologists who learn from each other by working in small teams to advance projects to success. Chemists synthesize chemical biology tools inspired by knowledge of enzyme mechanism and structure or, alternatively, using more traditional medicinal chemistry approaches. These chemical biology tools include enzyme substrates, inhibitors, and probes for positron emission tomography and high throughput proteomics. Biochemists and biologists work to create new in vitro assays, uncover the fundamental working of enzymes and proteins, and determine the functional roles of conjugates within cells and in vivo using new chemical biology tools and cutting edge methods. We collaborate extensively with leading experts around the world and team members have opportunities to learn methods through collaboration within the group as well as by visiting collaborators around the world.
